ABOUT Dennis Ivy

Dennis Ivy is a Houston-based designer - builder, whose work is defined by timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship, and an unwavering attention to detail. With more than five decades of creative and professional experience, Dennis brings an uncommon artistic perspective to every project he undertakes.

Dennis studied architecture at the University of Houston before pursuing photography at Sam Houston State University. His distinguished 25-year career as a professional photographer included commercial advertising, editorial work, fine art, and publishing. Throughout his career, he developed a reputation for creating compelling imagery that combined technical precision with artistic vision.

Among his most recognized works is NASA: A Quarter Century of Space Exploration, a portfolio of twenty handmade color dye-transfer & black & white carbro prints (both early photographic print processes).  Dennis set up shop at Johnson Space Center where he was allowed access to NASA's original in-flight film kept in a sub-zero vault to begin the initial steps of those processes.. The collection chronicles the early years of America's manned space program and features personal essays by fourteen former astronauts, NASA directors, and senior personnel. The portfolio is held in private and public collections around the world and was personally selected by President George W. Bush as the backdrop for the opening ceremonies of the World Economic Summit held at Rice University in Houston.

Dennis later co-curated the major exhibition Quest for the Moon and Other Stories at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, alongside Anne Tucker, Curator of Photography, and astronaut Joe Allen. His portfolio was the core and inspiration of that exhibition.  He was also commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art to contribute work to the exhibition Icons: Magnets of Meaning and won the commission to produce one of Houston's largest permanent public art installations — a 6-foot by 160 foot photographic mural displayed at CenterPoint Energy Plaza.

In 2000, Dennis transitioned his creative vision into real estate development, combining his background in architecture, design, and visual arts to create distinctive residential and commercial spaces. Since then, he has designed and built a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from luxury custom homes and renovations to commercial developments throughout the Houston area. His work includes projects for the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park, the Jimmy Wynn Training Facility at Sylvester Turner Park, and the design of the 56,000-square-foot MI3 Center.

Dennis believes that exceptional architecture begins long before construction starts. His years behind the camera trained him to recognize proportion, light, balance, texture, and composition—qualities that continue to shape every home and building he designs today. Combined with decades of hands-on construction experience, that artistic foundation allows him to create spaces that are not only functional, but enduringly beautiful.

Whether collaborating on a custom residence, a thoughtfully executed renovation, or a complex commercial project, Dennis approaches every commission with the same commitment to listening carefully, solving problems creatively, and delivering craftsmanship that reflects each client's vision. His reputation has been built on integrity, attention to detail, and a passion for creating spaces that stand the test of time.
